It’s an awfully risky thing, to live.
-Carl Rogers
I was born in Glasgow in 1986. I was a freelance artist for several years, exhibiting my own work as well as working with charities and communities on creative projects. I have experience of supporting adults' and children's emotional health in the third sector and in education. I have delivered training in schools, and devised and led group support programmes for primary and high school children.
My BA is in Visual Communication from the Glasgow School of Art, and I think my creativity goes hand in hand with my passion for supporting emotional wellbeing. I think the expressive arts can really help us access our emotions and describe our experiences. Where my clients wish, I can facilitate collaborative therapeutic art sessions, as well as traditional 'sitting and talking' therapy. I also believe in educating ourselves about how our minds work, so I like to share articles, links, videos, book recommendations with my clients too.
Being a therapist is very much a part of who I am - I'm always reading, journalling, and making art in order to better understand myself. As I get older I have become interested in using embodied experience to heal myself - I love activities like cycling, wild swimming, yoga and hiking. I also attend regular meditation retreats in order to reset, take stock and be alone with myself. I believe that engaging in this process of courageous and open-ended self-discovery makes me better equipped to be alongside my clients on their journeys.
