What kind of counselling do you practice?
Person-centred therapy focusses on your individual experience of the world rather than applying a standard formula to everyone. I have experience of working with clients experiencing bereavement, family and relationship issues, addiction, sexuality issues, anger, trauma, abuse, suicidal feelings, self-harm, depression, anxiety, stress and identity issues.
Some people think that person-centred counsellors just 'sit and nod', but this is absolutely not true! The therapy I offer will facilitate your growth into the person you want to be. You might not know what that looks like yet - and that's ok - we can work that out together. The important thing is that it is always led by you, and not an artificial framework that is forced on your process.
What are your qualifications?
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy from Persona, one of Scotland's leading providers of psychotherapy training. I am a member of COSCA and adhere to their ethical framework. I also meet monthly with a clinical supervisor who oversees my work and ensures that my practice remains ethical and safe for both myself and my clients.
I am also a qualified primary teacher with experience of working with children aged 5 - 18, which gives me an insight into the unique difficulties facing young people today. While making the switch from teaching to counselling, I worked for a childhood bereavement charity, helping children and young people through the difficult and often bewildering emotions surrounding loss. Find out more about my work with children here. .
Who do you work with?
I have experience of, and am comfortable with, counselling people between 5 and 65. When I work with children I bring in lots of play and art activities. Most adults prefer to just sit and talk, but I am happy to bring in creative elements when requested by clients. I can offer collaborative therapeutic art sessions in which we can work together to make sense of your story using techniques such as collage, painting and drawing. No skill is required for this, just curiosity! If this interest you, we can discuss it during your first session.
How do I contact you?
I offer a free 15 minute discovery call should you wish to hear my voice and get an idea of what I'm like before booking a session. Please reach out to me at sarah@sarahrossicounselling.co.uk and I will get back to you with some suggested times.
How much does counselling cost?
My fees start at £55 per session. Most clients pay by bank transfer, however I am committed to keeping my practice accessible so I do accept cash should you wish to pay in this way.
Where does counselling take place?
I offer in-person sessions on Thursdays at my office at in Fitzroy Place, Glasgow G3. I offer in-person sessions from my separate, private home office in Mosspark, Glasgow G52 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. I can also offer online sessions over Google Meet (Monday - Friday). I am available some weekends - we can discuss this should it be of benefit to you. I conduct online sessions from a separate, closed room and use headphones to ensure confidentiality.
What happens in the first session?
We will discuss what brings you to counselling, as well as exploring frequency of sessions and timescale. Initially, clients usually come weekly or fortnightly, but sessions may be spaced out further later on. Some clients come for 5 or 6 sessions, while with others I have a longer-term therapeutic relationship. It really is about your needs and what works for you within your budget and schedule – this can be discussed and modified as we go.
What if I need help right now?
I can work with you during scheduled sessions to explore suicidal thoughts and feelings, however I am not a crisis service. If you feel you’re in danger of harming yourself or others right now, please contact the emergency services and your GP. Additionally, you can contact the Samaritans 24/7 on 116 123, or jo@samaritans.org.
